NIRF – National Institutional Ranking Framework

NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) is a methodology developed by the Ministry of Education (Government of India) to rank higher educational institutions across the country. It was launched on 29 September 2015 by the then MHRD.

NIRF provides annual rankings of universities, colleges, engineering institutions, management institutions, pharmacy, architecture, medical, law, research institutions, and overall category.

Objectives of NIRF

·        To measure the performance and quality of higher education institutions.

·        To promote accountability, transparency, and competition among institutions.

·        To help students make informed decisions for admissions.

·        To encourage institutions to improve their teaching, research, and outreach performance.

Five Major Parameters of NIRF Ranking

NIRF ranks institutions based on five core parameters:

1. Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR)

2. Research & Professional Practices (RP)
